Generations would come to remember the tale of King Aldric and Prince Caelum, a story of betrayal and redemption that echoed throughout the stars.

With my blood, I bless this blade. I vow that before I return it to the fires of the mountain, I will bathe it in the blood of the one who killed our people.

After a short time at top speed, the captain called down and informed us that he wanted to try to establish a new top speed. I advised the captain that the ship had never been pushed any faster than the current speed, and that I could not predict what exceeding previously established safe top speeds would do.

I asked what was so funny. He informed me that this had been a training exercise. I told him that I was aware and that was why I was here. He laughed again and said that I didn’t understand.

He had just received word of something that was impossible. He was headed to the edge of the system to meet an incoming fleet of ships. A fleet that should not be here … was impossible to be here. He was going to welcome an old friend and, most likely, kill him.

He rested his brow on the palm of his hand.  How could this have happened?  They were the sword of the empire.  Their crusade was just and holy.  They had been sent out to cleanse the galaxy and extend the territory of their god emperor.  How could his holy armada have been defeated so soundly.

Alarm klaxons sounded all throughout the station’s command center (and throughout the station itself). A young officer brought her eyes up from her monitors.
“General, central command has brought the entire military to battle stations. The energy bloom is dissipating. They estimate communications will be possible in moments.”
“Very well Lieutenant. Tune us into the fleet tactical frequency. Let’s listen in to the conversation.”
“Yessir,” came the immediate reply. “The fleet Admiral has opened a channel and awaiting a response from the enemy fleet.”
All the general could do was wait. This was the Admiral’s show now. Everything would hinge on how this conversation went.
